Your Guide For All HORIBA U-50 Accessories
Replacement Electrodes:
pH Glass Electrode #7112 (pH sensor)
This electrode is used for measuring the pH value. It works in conjunction with pH Reference Electrode #7210.
The life span of the pH glass electrode is approximately. 2-3 years. The life span will be reduced if correct care and maintenance is not carried out. Please contact us to learn more.
pH Black Protection Cap

The black protection cap comes with the pH glass electrode. However, if you do lose this, you can purchase more in a pack of 3. The pH protection cap must cover the pH glass electrode when not in use. Ensure the cap has a few drops of water inside to prevent the glass bulb from drying out. If the surface of the glass bulb dries out, the condition of the pH sensor will deteriorate quickly, and the response time will be slower.
pH Reference Electrode #7210
This electrode is crucial for pH measurement because it provides a stable, constant electrical potential that allows the measurement of the pH glass electrode’s potential. Without a constant reference, it would be impossible to measure the voltage difference required to determine the hydrogen ion activity in water. Which is what pH indicates.
The life span of the pH reference electrode is approx. 4 years.
pH Reference Liquid Junction Cap

The pH liquid junction cap is for pH reference electrode #7210. This cap should be replaced if the wick shortens or becomes clogged.
pH Reference Filling Solution
This solution is used for refilling the pH reference electrode #7210. Simply remove the Liquid Junction Cap to refill the reference electrode. This solution should be replaced every 2-3 months, or more often depending on the usage. If the meter is stored away for some time, always check that the solution has not solidified (hardened). If this happens, rinse out the solution with fresh water and replace it with fresh solution.

ORP Electrode #7313
The ORP electrode is for measuring ORP; this also works in conjunction with the pH reference Electrode #7210.
The life span of the ORP electrode is approximately. 5+ years.
Dissolved Oxygen Electrode #7543
This electrode is used for measuring dissolved oxygen. It has a polarographic type of sensor and requires a 15-minute
warm-up period before measuring or calibrating. It requires periodic maintenance every 3-6 months by replacing the D.O. membrane cap and D.O. filling solution
For more information on maintaining your D.O. electrode and a step-by-step guide, please contact us or visit our article HERE
Dissolved Oxygen Membrane Cap
The D.O. membrane caps are to be replaced every 3-6 months as mentioned above.
There is a proper procedure for replacing these caps, so please contact us for more information.
Dissolved Oxygen Reference Filling Solution #306
This solution is used to refill the D.O. membrane cap when it is replaced.
Dissolved Oxygen Protection Cap for D.O. Electrode #7543
This white protection cap comes with the Dissolved Oxygen electrode initially. However, if you do misplace this cap, you can purchase more in a pack of 3. The D.O. protection cap must cover the D.O. electrode when not in use. Ensure the cap has a few drops of water inside to prevent the membrane from drying out. This can slow the response time.
Turbidity Sponge
Cleaning sponge brush for turbidity Sensor for the U-50 Series.
- Frequency: Clean every 2 months or more frequently when measuring dirty samples
- Method 1: Use a sponge brush with mild detergent (a few drops of dishwashing detergent in 500ml of lukewarm water).
- Method 2: Wet the probe and sponge brush, add a drop of dishwashing liquid directly to the brush, run it through the turbidity sensor several times, then rinse with clean water.
Calibration Beaker Set
The calibration beaker set consists of a black outer container and a clear inner container. It is designed for calibration your U-50 Series meter using calibration solutions.
The clear insert has a slot to insert the dissolved oxygen electrode to calibrate it in air, so it doesn’t come in contact with any solution. However, if you are doing a two-point calibration for dissolved oxygen, you will need to remove the inner clear insert and only use the black outer container, so the D.O. sensor can be immersed in the zero oxygen solution.
For more on calibration, please contact us to receive documentation.
Auto Cal Solution – Also known as pH4 (clear solution)
Calibration of the U-50 Series can be performed at any time in AUTO mode using the Auto Calibration Solution and calibration beaker supplied with the instrument (500ml of 100-4 HORIBA solution). Please note that AUTO calibration only performs single-point calibration on the following parameters:
- pH: at pH 4
- Conductivity: at 4.49 mS/cm at 25°C
- Turbidity: at zero
- Dissolved Oxygen (DO): at span (air calibration)
***Auto calibration is not possible with a normal colour coded red pH 4.00 buffer solution***
For more information on manual calibration (recommended) and auto calibration, please contact us to receive the appropriate documentation.
