HORIBA Australia Pty Ltd acquired Australian Scientific Pty Ltd on 1 May 2026. The business continues to operate as the HORIBA Australia Pty Ltd – Australian Scientific Business Unit, maintaining its established identity and strong market presence.

This acquisition marks the establishment of the HORIBA Group’s first Australian subsidiary, reflecting its long-term commitment to growth in the Australian market.

History

The company commenced trading in 1980 as Newcastle Scientific Supplies, servicing laboratories in Newcastle and the surrounding Hunter Valley region.

Built on a philosophy of delivering high-quality products and exceptional service at competitive prices, the business quickly developed a loyal customer base. This included many of Australia’s leading companies and scientific institutions—many of whom remain valued customers today.

As demand grew beyond the local region, the company expanded its reach across Australia and subsequently rebranded as Australian Scientific Pty Ltd. Strategic acquisition of competitive agency lines supported this national expansion and strengthened its position within the market.

A key strength of Australian Scientific has been the stability of its management team. This continuity has enabled the development and maintenance of long-standing relationships with customers across industry and government sectors for more than four decades.

HORIBA recognises and respects Australian Scientific’s strong legacy, including more than 30 years of successfully representing HORIBA products in Australia. The acquisition ensures continuity while building on this solid foundation for future growth.

Today, Horiba’s Australian Scientific Business Unit supplies a comprehensive range of laboratory equipment, chemicals, consumables, and water quality monitoring instrumentation throughout Australia.
